The Federal Ministry of Defence has announced plans to develop a structured framework for implementing recommendations reached at the 2026 South-East Regional Security Summit, as part of efforts to tackle persistent security challenges across the region.
The announcement was made in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, by the Special Assistant to the Minister of Defence, retired Rear Admiral Oluwale Bankole, while presenting the communiqué issued at the end of the summit.
He said the proposed framework would translate the resolutions adopted during the meeting into actionable measures aimed at strengthening peace and improving security in the South-East.
According to Bankole, the summit was organised by the Federal Ministry of Defence in partnership with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South-East).
He explained that the gathering brought together key stakeholders to identify practical and sustainable strategies for addressing the region’s security concerns, while encouraging closer collaboration between government institutions, security agencies and local communities.
The initiative also reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to working with regional stakeholders to develop long-term solutions to the area’s evolving security challenges.
