Eastland Electricity Distribution Limited (EEDL) has launched its maiden Mid-Year Staff Recognition Awards, honouring outstanding employees across various departments as part of efforts to promote excellence, boost staff morale and strengthen a culture of high performance within the organisation.

The initiative, the first of its kind in the company, complements the End-of-Year Recognition Awards introduced in 2025 and underscores EEDL’s commitment to recognising exceptional performance while motivating employees to deliver improved service to customers across Ebonyi State.

Speaking on the initiative, the company’s Head of Communications, Mrs. Patience Ezeagu, said the awards would now be held twice yearly to celebrate employees whose dedication and contributions continue to drive the organisation’s growth.

According to her, the programme is aimed at encouraging excellence, fostering healthy competition among staff and reinforcing the company’s commitment to quality service delivery.

The ceremony, held amid excitement, saw employees enthusiastically welcome the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Nnamdi Chuka-Nwosu, reflecting what the company described as the workforce’s confidence in his leadership.

Addressing the staff, Chuka-Nwosu commended employees for their resilience, teamwork and commitment despite the operational challenges confronting the company.

“I always tell you that I have so much belief in all of us – in the EEDL team. I know I have the best team, and we will always remain the best,” he said.

He praised staff for sustaining the company’s operations during the first half of the year and assured them that management would continue to provide the necessary support to improve their working conditions.

“We are aware of the challenges on the job, and we are working to surmount them. I know it is not easy, but trust me, we will keep pushing. Any support required to make your work easier and more effective will be provided,” he assured.

The EEDL boss also reminded employees that customers remain at the heart of the company’s operations, urging them to maintain professionalism, courtesy and effective communication in every customer interaction.

Also speaking, the Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Cyprian Nwankwegu, congratulated staff on their performance and urged marketers to ensure prompt bill distribution while escalating customer complaints without delay for swift resolution.

“Let us continue to build this business together so that we can all enjoy the rewards of our collective efforts,” he said.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to exceptional employees in several categories, including Overall Best Meter Technician, Best Substation Operator, Best Linesman, Best Cable Jointer, Best Marketer, Best Billing Officer, Best Customer Service Officer, Best Electrical Fitter, Best Operations Technician, Best Feeder Manager, Best Cleaner, Best Driver and Best Security Officer, among others.

Recipients received certificates of recognition and cash rewards from the Managing Director in appreciation of their outstanding contributions to the company’s success.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Christiana Obasi, who emerged as the Best Billing Officer, expressed gratitude to the company’s management for introducing the Mid-Year Staff Recognition Awards.

She described the initiative as a timely reward for hard work and dedication, saying it would inspire employees to raise performance standards even higher.

Obasi also praised Chuka-Nwosu’s people-centred leadership, assuring management that the recognition would motivate the workforce to remain committed to professionalism and work harder towards achieving the company’s operational and revenue targets.

The company said the introduction of the Mid-Year Staff Recognition Awards reflects its resolve to reward excellence, inspire higher productivity and build a motivated workforce committed to delivering reliable electricity services across Ebonyi State.
