The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected illicit drug dealers and recovered substances suspected to be cannabis, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs valued at N6.2 million, alongside N598,400 in cash.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, at a suspected criminal hideout in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The operation was conducted in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on sustained intelligence-led operations and the dismantling of criminal hideouts across the country.
The suspects were identified as 47-year-old Nzube Onyedikachukwu, alias “Onyeoma”, and 20-year-old Ugochukwu Azia.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected illicit drug dealers operating in the area.
A search of the hideout reportedly led to the recovery of the suspected illicit drugs, valued at N6.2 million, as well as N598,400 in cash.
Preliminary investigation, the Command said, indicated that the suspects were allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs, while the location was also allegedly being used as a meeting point by suspected criminals after carrying out their operations.
The police said some of the suspected criminals fled the scene after sighting the operatives.
The two arrested suspects are currently in police custody as investigation continues to determine the source and distribution network of the suspected drugs, identify other persons linked to the operation and establish the circumstances surrounding the recovered cash.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, said the Command would sustain targeted raids and intelligence-driven operations against criminal elements and their hideouts.
CP Nnanna Oji Ama also urged residents, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to provide the police with timely and credible information on suspicious persons, criminal activities and suspected criminal hideouts.
The latest operation, according to the Command, forms part of intensified efforts to deny criminals safe havens and strengthen security across Anambra State.
