Hon. Ifeanyi Nnamani, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Enugu State House of Assembly in Nkanu West Constituency, has been credited with introducing what supporters describe as a new approach to grassroots political engagement through a 10-day free medical outreach across the constituency.
The outreach, which covered all four development centres in Nkanu West, attracted more than 5,000 residents and provided medical services including blood pressure and diabetes screening, tests for HIV 1 & 2, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and syphilis, as well as the distribution of medicated eyeglasses and mobility wheelchairs.
The exercise was held at Awkunanaw Development Centre on August 1, Akpugo Development Centre on August 3, Obe/Ozalla Development Centre at Community Primary School, Ugwu Obe, on August 5, and Agbani/Amuri Development Centre at St. John’s Primary School, Agbani, on August 10.
The scale and spread of the intervention, according to the account, were significant because the medical teams were deliberately deployed across the four development centres rather than concentrating the programme in one location.
Beyond the immediate medical intervention, the outreach also brought to light previously undetected health conditions among some rural residents, including cases of elevated blood pressure that could pose serious health risks if left unattended.
The initiative is being presented as an extension of Nnamani’s longstanding community engagement rather than an entirely new undertaking. According to the account, he had conducted localised medical interventions in Agbani for more than a decade before securing the APC ticket for the House of Assembly race.
Nnamani is described as a professional with B.Sc. and M.Sc. qualifications, an associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and a member of the Certified Public Administrators. He is also an Australian Certified Surface Coal Mine Safety Expert and currently oversees Earthcore Mining and Energy Resources Limited.
He previously served as a Senior Special Assistant to the Enugu State Governor, experience which supporters say has shaped his approach to public administration and community development.
His proposed legislative agenda for Nkanu West centres on four key areas: healthcare, education, youth development and agriculture.
Under healthcare, he proposes improved access to basic medical services in rural communities, while his education plan focuses on academic support and infrastructure upgrades for primary schools.
His youth development agenda emphasises digital skills and vocational training, while the agricultural component seeks improved access to modern farming tools, fertilisers and supply channels for farmers.
Nkanu West comprises communities including Agbani, Akpugo, Ozalla, Amurri, Obe, Amodu, Umueze Obuoffia and Akegbe Ugwu.
The outreach has consequently placed Nnamani’s campaign under closer public scrutiny as the constituency heads towards the legislative election, with the central question now being whether the healthcare intervention can translate into a broader and sustainable programme of representation if he secures a seat in the Enugu State House of Assembly.
