Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber and recovered a locally made pistol and a live cartridge during a citizen-supported operation in Obollo Etiti, Udenu Local Government Area.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, who said the arrest followed credible information received by the police on August 10 about the suspicious activities of a young man who had checked into a hotel in the area.
According to Ndukwe, police operatives acted on the information and searched the suspect’s bag, leading to the recovery of the locally made pistol and live cartridge.
The suspect, identified as Chekwube Agbo, was subsequently arrested and taken into custody alongside the recovered exhibits.
During preliminary interrogation, Agbo allegedly confessed to being a member of an armed robbery gang specialising in threatening and robbing Point-of-Sale operators of their valuables.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that other members of the gang fled the scene following his arrest.
Ndukwe said the suspect would be prosecuted after the conclusion of investigations, while efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the citizen whose timely information led to the arrest and recovery of the weapon.
Giwa also stressed the importance of citizens promptly providing the police with credible information about suspicious persons and activities.
He assured residents that the command would continue to pursue criminal elements in the state, while investigations into the incident and efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects remain ongoing.
