The Anambra State Police Command has recovered two locally fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, August 14, 2026, saying the recovery was made by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) during a routine patrol on August 13.
According to Ikenga, the operatives were patrolling along the Isuaniocha Bridge in the afternoon when they sighted two young men riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number.
The riders, he said, became suspicious on sighting the police team and suddenly made a reckless turn in an apparent attempt to evade the operatives.
The officers immediately gave chase, but the suspects eventually fell from the motorcycle and abandoned it along with two slippers and a bag before escaping into a nearby bush.
A search of the abandoned bag, the police spokesman said, led to the recovery of two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity.
The recovery has heightened concerns over the possible movement of firearms and cult-related criminal activities within the area, as the police intensify patrols and intelligence-led operations across the state.
The Command said efforts were already underway to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects and establish their identities, affiliations and the circumstances surrounding their possession of the firearms and cult-related items.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the operatives for their alertness and swift response, while reaffirming the Command’s commitment to preventing criminal activities through sustained patrols and proactive policing.
CP Ama directed that efforts be intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
He further stressed that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations and other security measures to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard residents across Anambra State.
