Tension briefly erupted at the polling unit of Osun State Deputy Governor and Accord Party deputy governorship candidate, Prince Kola Adewusi, in Ile-Ife on Saturday during the state governorship election.
The incident occurred after the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Benjamin Kayode Adereti, arrived at Adewusi’s polling unit after casting his ballot at Waasin Polling Unit 11, Ilaare Ward 3.
Adereti’s arrival reportedly met resistance from some supporters of Adewusi, triggering a heated confrontation between supporters of the two political camps.
The exchange of words briefly disrupted the otherwise calm atmosphere at the polling location, with tensions rising as the supporters confronted one another.
The reason for Adereti’s visit to the Accord deputy governorship candidate’s polling unit was not immediately clear.
Security personnel were present at the scene and intervened to prevent the confrontation from escalating further, as voting continued amid the tension.
