Senator representing Osun East, Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, has urged his supporters to closely monitor the voting process as Osun State elects its governor on Saturday.
Fadahunsi made the call while addressing supporters in Ilesha, urging them to ensure that voters freely cast their ballots for their preferred candidates and that the process is properly monitored.
In a video circulating online, the senator said: “Monitor the ballot, don’t let someone else tell you, monitor it. Whosoever does not vote rightly is not a true son of this land.”
His remarks came days after he sparked controversy over comments widely interpreted as a threat against members of the Accord Party in Ilesha.
Fadahunsi had reportedly warned that trouble would follow if Accord Party members were seen in the area and was quoted as telling his supporters to “kill” them.
The senator subsequently clarified that the remark was metaphorical, saying he was calling on his supporters to defeat the Accord Party through lawful and democratic means at the polls.
In a statement issued by his media office in Osogbo and titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence, Senator Fadahunsi Tells APC,” Fadahunsi described his earlier comment as “purely political and metaphorical.”
He explained that his statement was intended to mobilise supporters to overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party through their votes rather than resort to physical attacks.
The senator’s latest appeal for close monitoring of the ballot comes against the backdrop of heightened political tension in parts of the state ahead of the governorship election.
