Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has expressed confidence in the victory of his uncle, Osun State Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, in Saturday’s governorship election.
Davido made the declaration in a series of posts on social media as votes were being sorted and counted at polling units across Osun State.
Reacting to emerging results, the singer claimed that the Accord Party was ahead and mocked the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that the party had lost the polling ward of former Osun State Governor, Bisi Akande.
“Their group chat don scatter! Baba Akande lost his ward. Gov Adeleke is cruising to victory. Shame APC. Osun no be Edo!” Davido wrote.
The singer, who had openly mobilised support for Adeleke ahead of the election, also called on residents to remain vigilant throughout the night.
“I implore Osun people to stay vigilant all night and resist plans of Oyetola. Na we get Osogbo! Imole ti woleeeee,” he added, referring to former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
In another post, Davido expressed confidence that Adeleke would emerge victorious while urging security agencies to maintain their presence at electoral locations.
“We are winning, guys! Security agencies shouldn’t be withdrawn from electoral units,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the sorting and counting of ballots following the conclusion of voting across the state.
As of 5:51 p.m. on Saturday, results from 1,695 of the 3,763 polling units had been uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing Portal.
Adeleke, who is seeking another term as governor on the Accord Party platform, had earlier expressed confidence in victory after casting his ballot at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, in Ede North Local Government Area.
The APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, also expressed confidence in victory after voting at Ward 09, Unit 011, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam raised concerns over the alleged non-recognition of his party agents in some parts of the state.
With sorting and collation still ongoing, INEC had not officially declared a winner as of the time of filing this report.
