Popular gospel artiste Asu Ekiye has announced the end of his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa Asu, revealing that the union actually came to an end a year ago.
Ekiye made the disclosure in a public statement issued on Thursday morning, August 20, 2026, explaining that he deliberately kept the development private for one year to allow both parties to reflect, gain clarity and quietly come to terms with the end of their marriage.
The gospel singer described the 28-year union as a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection, announcing its conclusion with what he described as “sobriety and quiet resignation.”
“After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to Kunemofa Asu has come to an end,” Ekiye stated.
He said he had chosen to close the chapter without bitterness, opting instead for grace, gratitude and dignity as he looks towards the next phase of his life.
“Some chapters, however significant and memorable, eventually come to an end. I choose to close this chapter with grace, gratitude and dignity, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season,” he said.
Ekiye further clarified that the separation was not a recent development, stressing that the marriage ended approximately one year before his public announcement.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago. I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to bring the perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves,” he added.
The announcement marks the public end of a 28-year marital journey for the prominent gospel musician, who offered no details about the circumstances surrounding the separation.
Rather, Ekiye urged that the conclusion of the marriage be viewed as the closing of a significant chapter of his life and the beginning of a new season.
