President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the tenure of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos, and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ali Mohammed Ali, for another three years.

The presidency announced the decision in a statement issued on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, noting that the renewed tenure of both media executives will commence on October 20, 2026.

Dembos and Ali were first appointed by President Tinubu on October 20, 2023, and will now continue to lead the two government-owned media organisations for a second term.

Dembos, an indigene of Yola, Adamawa State, is a veteran broadcaster and former National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU).

He joined the NTA as an announcer at its Kaduna station in 1989 after completing his National Youth Service and subsequently rose through the ranks, serving as General Manager of NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano.

He later served as Acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre before retiring from the organisation in 2017. He subsequently returned to the NTA as Executive Director of Marketing.

Ali, on his part, is a veteran journalist and media manager with more than three decades of experience in journalism and media administration.

He holds a degree in English from Bayero University, Kano, a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication from Bayero University.

According to the presidency, Ali has maintained a strong interest in media evolution and content development, particularly in adapting media platforms to the demands of an increasingly digital and diverse audience.

President Tinubu urged both chief executives to justify the confidence reposed in them by sustaining their commitment to the mandates of their respective organisations.

He also charged them to continue supporting the promotion of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda through effective communication and professional media practice.
