A wedding ceremony in Kano State reportedly turned tragic after a 34-year-old man, Rabiu Mukthar, allegedly opened fire on guests, killing one person and injuring three others.
The incident reportedly occurred in Tudun Yola Quarters after Mukthar, who resides in the area, allegedly became disturbed by loud music playing during the wedding ceremony.
The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect allegedly came out of his residence and opened fire on people attending the ceremony.
According to Kiyawa, Mukthar allegedly used a pump-action gun to fire sporadically at the gathering, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to three others.
He said police operatives responded immediately after receiving information about the shooting and arrested Mukthar and another suspect.
Kiyawa added that the pump-action gun allegedly used in the attack was recovered from Mukthar.
The police spokesperson said the suspect reportedly told investigators that the organisers of the wedding had failed to consult him before holding the ceremony.
Mukthar allegedly told the police that the noise from the music disturbed his sleep, prompting him to open fire at the gathering.
Kiyawa said the two suspects were being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Kano State Police Command as investigation into the incident continued.
