The Enugu State Government has stepped up efforts to transform the state’s fashion industry from a talent-driven sector into a structured and competitive economic ecosystem capable of creating jobs, supporting businesses and positioning Enugu-made brands for wider markets.

The development formed the focus of the Enugu Fashion Roundtable, which brought together key stakeholders across the fashion ecosystem to deliberate on policies, partnerships and practical interventions needed to accelerate the industry’s growth.

The initiative is being driven under the leadership of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose administration is supporting the sector through the Enugu MSME & Startup Agency, also known as the Enugu SME Center.

Through the agency, the state government is providing interventions aimed at equipping fashion entrepreneurs with relevant skills, improving access to finance, expanding market opportunities and strengthening production capacity.

A major component of the intervention is the Enugu Garment Factory, which provides production support designed to help local fashion businesses move beyond individual craftsmanship into more organised and scalable enterprises.

The government’s approach is anchored on building an integrated fashion ecosystem in which emerging talents can access the support required to establish sustainable businesses, while existing enterprises are empowered to expand, create employment and compete in larger markets.

The roundtable therefore provided an opportunity for stakeholders to examine the gaps within the fashion value chain and identify areas where government, private-sector players and industry professionals can collaborate to unlock the sector’s economic potential.

The state government’s vision is to ensure that Enugu’s fashion industry contributes meaningfully to economic development by connecting creativity with enterprise, production, financing and market access.

The strategy ultimately seeks to create a cycle in which talent becomes enterprise, enterprise creates jobs, and Enugu-made fashion brands gain the capacity to compete beyond the state and across wider markets.
