Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will now pay ₦4,000 only once to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or O’Level results under a new arrangement between the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The new policy is expected to ease the financial and administrative burden faced by admission seekers who have previously had to pay repeatedly for the verification of the same academic credentials by different institutions.
Under the arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results once through JAMB, after which the verification outcome will be transmitted to the relevant tertiary institution.
JAMB and WAEC announced the development in a joint statement issued on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, directing candidates to make the ₦4,000 payment only through the designated JAMB Verification Service platform.
The two bodies stressed that candidates should not make the payment to individual tertiary institutions.
They also directed tertiary institutions to rely on the verified results supplied by JAMB for admission screening, processing and other administrative purposes.
Consequently, institutions are prohibited from demanding additional payments from candidates for the verification of the same WAEC result.
The new arrangement followed a series of meetings and consultations between JAMB and WAEC aimed at streamlining the verification process and reducing the financial and logistical challenges faced by prospective students.
According to the statement, WAEC has authorised JAMB to share verification outcomes with relevant tertiary institutions for admission-related purposes.
“This arrangement is designed to ensure that candidates who have successfully verified their WASSCE O’ Level result through the Verification Service platform will not be required to repeat the same verification exercise,” the bodies said.
JAMB and WAEC explained that the new system would also allow candidates to initiate and complete the verification process from their homes or any internet-enabled location.
This, they said, would eliminate the need for candidates to make repeated trips to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres solely for result verification.
The examination and admission bodies urged candidates to take advantage of the arrangement by completing their WASSCE O’Level verification once through the JAMB-provided platform.
They said the verified result would subsequently be made available to the institution where the candidate is seeking admission.
The collaboration, according to JAMB and WAEC, is aimed at putting candidates’ interests at the centre of the admission process by reducing unnecessary costs, cutting administrative burdens and simplifying result verification while maintaining the integrity and security of academic records.
