The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has pledged to strengthen its partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), with emphasis on staff capacity building, professional training and knowledge development.
EEDC Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Vincent Ekwekwu, made the commitment on Wednesday when he received a delegation from the ICAN Enugu and District Society, led by its Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Anyim, at the company’s corporate headquarters, Power House, Enugu.
The visit was primarily to appreciate the EEDC management for its support to the Institute over the years and formally introduce Anyim as the 19th Chairman of the ICAN Enugu and District Society following his investiture in July 2026.
During the meeting, the ICAN delegation outlined some of the Institute’s forthcoming programmes and areas in which it is seeking EEDC’s support.
The delegation also offered to facilitate specialised training and capacity-building programmes for EEDC personnel to deepen their professional knowledge and equip them with the skills required to perform their responsibilities more effectively.
Receiving the delegation, Ekwekwu congratulated Anyim on his emergence as chairman and commended ICAN for its contribution to the growth and sustainability of businesses through the expertise and professionalism of its members.
He acknowledged the requests presented by the delegation and assured the Institute that EEDC was prepared to support initiatives capable of further strengthening the relationship between both organisations.
According to him, the partnership between EEDC and ICAN is mutually beneficial, as both organisations can leverage their respective expertise and strengths to create value.
Ekwekwu also used the occasion to explain the transformation that has taken place in Nigeria’s electricity supply industry, highlighting the evolution of EEDC and the emergence of subsidiary electricity distribution companies following reforms in the sector.
He explained that the reforms had resulted in the establishment of state-focused distribution companies saddled with the responsibility of distributing electricity across the respective states in the South-East.
Speaking earlier, EEDC Group Chief Finance Officer, Mr. Pauli Isiguzo, thanked the ICAN delegation for the visit and acknowledged the Institute’s contributions to the company, particularly in service delivery and revenue protection.
Isiguzo urged members of the delegation to continue serving as ambassadors and advocates of EEDC, stressing that the accounting profession remains critical to the effective management and long-term sustainability of businesses.
“The good thing about ICAN and the accounting profession is that when it comes to business, you can’t do without ICAN members,” he said.
He further disclosed that EEDC is the highest single private employer of Chartered Accountants in the South-East, describing the development as a reflection of the company’s strong reliance on professional expertise and continuous capacity development.
Isiguzo added that EEDC was also engaging investors interested in participating in the evolving electricity distribution space, stressing that strong professional capacity and sound financial management would remain essential as the business environment continues to change.
