A man, Taye Kasali, has been arrested by the Osun State Police Command for allegedly killing his mother, Mrs Kudirat Kasali, following a dispute over farmland.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the incident came to light after the woman and her son were reported missing on September 1, 2026.
According to Ojelabi, the police received the missing-person report at Bode-Osi in Ola-Oluwa Local Government Area and immediately commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.
He said intelligence gathered by the command subsequently led to Taye’s arrest on September 7, 2026, after which the suspect allegedly confessed to killing his mother.
Following the confession, the suspect reportedly led police operatives to a farm where his mother’s body was discovered buried in a shallow grave.
The police also recovered a machete allegedly used to slit the deceased’s throat before her body was buried.
According to the statement, the suspect claimed that the disagreement with his mother centred on the family farmland, which he said was their source of income.
Ojelabi said the suspect further alleged that his mother had been referring to him as a mad person and threatening to lease out the farmland.
The recovery of the body and the alleged murder weapon followed the intelligence-led operation by police detectives investigating the disappearance of the mother and son.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Zungura, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case, with a view to prosecuting the suspect.
The police commissioner directed investigators to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged killing and ensure that the suspect is brought before the court to face the law.
Zungura also assured residents of the state that justice would be served, while urging members of the public to promptly report cases of missing persons and other criminal activities to the police.
The Commissioner equally called for increased vigilance and cooperation from residents to assist security agencies in preventing and responding to criminal activities across the state.
