The New Enugu Group has congratulated Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, on his conferment with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by the University of East London (UEL), United Kingdom.
The University of East London on Thursday conferred the honorary Doctor of Law degree, honoris causa, on Mbah, an alumnus of the institution, in recognition of his academic excellence, entrepreneurial achievements and leadership record in public service. The honour was presented during the university’s graduation ceremony at its Docklands Campus in London.

In a congratulatory message signed by the Convener of the New Enugu Group, Henry Okeke, Esq., the group described the award as a recognition of Mbah’s remarkable transition from academic and student leadership excellence to a successful career as an entrepreneur, maritime lawyer and governor.
The group felicitated with Mbah on the honour, noting that the award underscored his accomplishments across academia, entrepreneurship, law and public service.
“NEW ENUGU GROUP felicitate with Dr. Peter Mbah, the Governor of Enugu State, who was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree (honoris causa) by his alma mater, the University of East London (UEL),” the statement read.
According to Okeke, the honorary degree recognises the governor’s journey from academic and student leadership to a distinguished career in entrepreneurship, maritime law and governance.
“This award recognizes Your Excellency’s transition from academic and student leadership excellence to a successful career as an entrepreneur, maritime lawyer, and governor implementing sweeping infrastructural and educational reforms in Enugu State,” he stated.
Okeke further congratulated the governor on the recognition, describing it as a significant honour from an institution that played a role in shaping his academic and professional journey.
“Congratulations Sir,” he said.
