The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has drawn the battle line with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that it is prepared for any eventuality and confident of defeating the ruling party if the election is free and fair.
The National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this during an interview on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast, where he also accused the APC of allegedly preparing to manipulate the electoral process.
Abdullahi said the opposition party was not intimidated by the multiplicity of political groups emerging ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that the ADC remained confident of its ability to defeat the incumbent if Nigerians were allowed to freely choose their leaders.
“Yes, we believe so. In a free and fair election, we have no doubt in my mind that we win this election,” he said.
The ADC spokesman, however, said the major concern was whether the 2027 election would be conducted in a manner that guarantees a level playing field for all political parties.
“The challenge is: Will there be a fair and fair election. We are ready for that. We are ready for anything,” Abdullahi said.
He alleged that the APC would attempt to manipulate the election, warning that the ADC would not leave the protection of its votes to chance.
“If you are dealing with these APC people, you have to be ready for anything quickly because we know that they want to steal the election. We will police our vote,” he said.
Abdullahi said the ADC was therefore putting structures in place to monitor the electoral process and protect the votes of its supporters from the polling unit through the collation process.
He also cited a recent comment attributed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, concerning the outcome of the Osun State governorship election.
According to Abdullahi, Wike’s suggestion that he would have delivered Osun State for the APC if he were in the state raised questions about what he described as the ruling party’s perceived ability or intention to influence electoral outcomes.
“What does that mean? That regardless of what the Osun people think, you have a way to deliver it. That’s confession,” he said.
The ADC spokesman further alleged that the APC had resorted to threats because, in his assessment, the ruling party had lost the support of Nigerians.
“We know Nigerians have abandoned them. They know Nigerians have abandoned them, and that’s why they are threatening everybody,” Abdullahi said.
He maintained that the ADC was approaching the 2027 election as a serious political contest and would not only campaign for votes but also take steps to ensure that votes cast for the party were protected.
Abdullahi said the party remained confident of victory in a credible election, while stressing that the integrity of the electoral process would determine whether the will of Nigerians would ultimately prevail.
The ADC’s position sets the stage for an increasingly combative political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the opposition party signalling that it intends to challenge the APC both at the ballot box and in the protection of its votes.
