Princess Ada Ogbu, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District, has condemned an alleged attack on members of the party during a ward meeting in Obuoffia, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Ogbu made her position known in a statement dated September 13, 2026, condemning what she described as an attack on NDC faithful in the area and calling on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
She disclosed that nine party members were still critically injured and receiving treatment in hospitals across Enugu, describing the development as disturbing and unacceptable political behaviour.
“I strongly condemn the attack on NDC party faithful in Obuoffia, Nkanu West LGA, during a ward meeting yesterday,” Ogbu stated.
She added, “Nine members of the party are still critically injured and receiving treatment in hospitals across Enugu. This is deeply disturbing and must not be allowed to pass as normal political behaviour.”
The NDC candidate called on relevant security agencies to immediately rise to their responsibility by investigating the incident, arresting those responsible and prosecuting them in accordance with the law.
According to her, Nigerians must be able to participate in political activities, support candidates of their choice and express their political opinions without fear of intimidation or violence.
“I call on the relevant security agencies to rise up to their responsibility, arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the attack and ensure that citizens are free to attend political meetings, support candidates of their choice and express their political views without intimidation or violence,” she said.
Ogbu warned that the incident should not be treated in isolation, recalling the consequences of political violence during previous election cycles.
“We have seen the consequences of this before. During the last election cycle, a candidate was murdered only days before the election. Enugu cannot afford to become a place where political violence is gradually accepted as part of the process,” she stated.
She urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the Obuoffia incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is held accountable.
“What happened in Obuoffia must be properly investigated, and those responsible must be held accountable. Politics must remain a contest of ideas and choices, not fear and bloodshed,” Ogbu said.
The senatorial candidate stressed that political participation should be based on the free expression of ideas and choices, rather than intimidation, violence or fear.
