The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old woman, Nwachukwu Chidubem Blessing, over an alleged self-kidnapping scheme in which her family reportedly paid ₦3 million as ransom.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, September 20, 2026, saying the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, following credible intelligence gathered during an investigation into a reported kidnapping.
According to Ikenga, Blessing was allegedly abducted along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026.
He said her family subsequently paid ₦3 million in ransom, but the woman was allegedly not released, prompting the police to intensify their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the reported abduction.
Following sustained intelligence gathering and investigative efforts, police operatives reportedly traced the alleged victim to a room in Asaba, Delta State, where she was recovered on the afternoon of Friday, September 18.
Preliminary findings, Ikenga said, indicate that the woman allegedly conspired with a female associate identified as Onyinye, whose other names are yet to be established, and an unidentified male accomplice to stage her own abduction and obtain money from her family.
The PPRO said the arrested suspect is currently assisting the police with information that could help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify her alleged accomplices.
Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, had directed that the investigation be intensified to unravel the circumstances of the alleged crime.
The CP also directed investigators to ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
