Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Senator Kelvin Chukwu, Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu, Hon. Johnson Ani, Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh and other APC candidates ahead of the September 26, 2026 local government election and the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was made on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, during the grand finale of the APC campaign in Enugu North, which drew party leaders, political stakeholders, community leaders and supporters from the 13 wards of the local government.
Speaking at the event, APC Deputy National Chairman, South, Dr. Ben Nwoye, commended the people of Enugu North for what he described as an “organic display of love and thankfulness” towards Tinubu, Mbah and the party’s candidates.
“I am very glad with what is happening today. This is pure and an organic display of love and thankfulness to Mr. President, our Governor and all other candidates of the party. It is clear that Enugu North LG people are looking at the performance of the different levels of government and the changes they have seen around them,” Nwoye said.
He said the endorsement reflected the desire of local leaders for continuity and effective representation, while commending them for “thinking for the future” and “thinking differently and acting differently.”
“This endorsement is also an indication that the leaders are interested in continuity and effective representation, which is one of the things that APC does well,” he said.
Nwoye added: “We have seen how important it is for elected officials to remain close to the people, listen to their concerns and ensure that policies and programmes continue to address the needs of ordinary residents, which is what people in Enugu North Local Government have been experiencing.”
He further declared: “We are happy that we are seeing leaders who think for the future, leaders who think differently and act differently. APC is the party to beat and we want massive support for all our candidates.”
The former chairman of Enugu North Local Government and Special Assistant to Governor Mbah on Grassroots Mobilisation, Hon. Emeka Onunze, said the APC had presented what he described as the best candidates for the forthcoming elections.
Onunze said Tinubu’s policies, programmes and projects had positively impacted residents of the South-East, including those in Enugu North, while describing Mbah’s administration as transformative.
He said the council’s political leaders had been working to secure what he described as “99.9 per cent” support for Mbah’s 2027 re-election bid, citing the administration’s performance across various sectors.
Onunze also praised Onoh’s grassroots leadership, describing the Enugu North council chairman as “the Peter Mbah of Enugu North Local Government Area.”
The Enugu State APC Chairman, Dr. Martins Chukwunweike, also commended Onoh for his grassroots engagement and commitment to the development of the local government.
“Grassroots leadership requires leaders to remain accessible, responsive and committed to the needs of the people. Dr. Onoh has, through his works and engagements, strengthened confidence in grassroots leadership and encouraged participation,” Chukwunweike said.
He assured the party’s candidates of continued support from the state leadership, while charging them to remain accountable to the electorate.
“The flag represents the party, its candidates and the responsibility they have to the people. We expect all our candidates to remain accessible and committed to the people who elected them,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, Onoh described the gathering as “a day of gratitude,” expressing appreciation to the APC leadership and Governor Mbah for their support.
He assured the party and residents of Enugu North that he and the other APC candidates would justify the confidence reposed in them and work towards the success of the party in the forthcoming local government and 2027 elections.
The campaign was led by the APC Chairman in Enugu North LGA, Hon. Ernest Onuoha; Onoh, who is the party’s chairmanship candidate; and the deputy chairmanship candidate, Hon. Echezona Ugwu.
Also in attendance were Senator Kelvin Chukwu; Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu, member representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; Hon. Johnson Ani, member representing Enugu North Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly and Leader of the House; and Rt. Hon. Iloabuchi Aniagu, member representing Nkanu West Constituency.
Former Enugu North council chairmen, Hon. Emeka Ede, Hon. Emeka Onunze and Hon. Friday Ugwu, were also present.
Other dignitaries included Hon. Dubem Onyia Jnr., Special Assistant to the Governor on Donor Relations; Hon. Paul Nnajiofor, Special Assistant to the Governor on Legislative Matters; former House of Representatives member, Hon. Gab Agbo; former Enugu State House of Assembly member, Hon. Engr. Chinedu Okwu (Otaka); Chief Charley Maduekwe, Onowu of Ogui Nike; Chief Temple Udeh, former chairman of Ogbete Main Market; and veteran Nollywood actress, Mrs. Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of APC flags to the chairmanship and councillorship candidates by the Enugu State APC leadership.
The September 26 council election is the scheduled Enugu State local government poll.
The campaign finale followed a series of ward-level engagements by the Enugu North APC campaign team in the build-up to the election, with residents and community stakeholders previously expressing support for Onoh, Mbah, Tinubu and other APC candidates.
