The Enugu State Government has intensified its support for local manufacturing and small businesses, with the Enugu MSME & Startup Agency providing productive equipment to King Black, an Enugu-based footwear and leather products enterprise, under its SME Equipment Grant Programme.
The agency disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, September 24, 2026, describing the intervention as part of Governor Peter Mbah’s broader efforts to strengthen Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), create jobs and build a private-sector-led economy in the state.
According to the agency, the equipment support is designed to enable King Black increase its production capacity, improve the quality of its footwear and leather products and gain access to wider markets.
The agency said the intervention reflects the commitment of Governor Mbah to transforming local businesses into competitive enterprises capable of contributing significantly to the state’s economic growth.
It said the administration’s broader economic agenda is aimed at growing Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion, while achieving a zero per cent poverty headcount index.
The agency stated that the equipment grant was not merely an intervention for an individual business but part of a wider strategy to develop productive industries and empower local entrepreneurs.
The statement added that the state government would, in the coming weeks, commence the establishment of a world-class Shoe and Leather Products Cluster in Owo, Nkanu East Local Government Area.
According to the agency, the proposed cluster will be equipped with modern machinery and shared production infrastructure to support artisans, expand local manufacturing and position Enugu as a competitive footwear and leather production hub.
“We are not simply providing equipment; we are building industries, creating jobs and transforming local talent into globally competitive enterprises,” the agency said.
The agency further linked the initiative to Governor Mbah’s economic vision, stating: “Peter Mbah — From Vision to Impact.”
The Enugu MSME & Startup Agency said the ongoing interventions would continue to focus on creating an enabling environment for local enterprises to expand, employ more people and compete effectively beyond the state’s borders.
