No fewer than 18,244 verified nano and micro entrepreneurs across Enugu State have received ₦50,000 each under the Federal Government’s Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme, bringing the total value of the grants to about ₦912.2 million.
The development was disclosed in a statement highlighting the implementation of the scheme across the state, with the organisers saying the funds were made available to eligible beneficiaries following an enumeration exercise conducted across the 17 Local Government Areas.
According to the statement, the beneficiaries cut across various sectors of the grassroots economy, including traders, artisans, food vendors, creatives, transport operators, ICT entrepreneurs and other small business owners.
It said the intervention was designed to put capital directly in the hands of entrepreneurs and strengthen businesses that support livelihoods and sustain economic activity across communities in the state.
The statement attributed the successful implementation of the programme in Enugu to the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, noting that the state government established multiple enumeration and support points to mobilise prospective beneficiaries and facilitate access to the Federal Government programme.
“The results speak clearly: 18,244 beneficiaries. 17 LGAs reached. ₦50,000 per entrepreneur. ₦912.2 million in direct grants to Enugu businesses,” the statement said.
It added that the impact of the grants extends beyond the headline figures, as beneficiaries are expected to use the funds to restock shops, purchase production materials, expand daily operations and acquire tools needed to improve their businesses.
The statement described the intervention as an example of how access to finance could be brought closer to grassroots entrepreneurs who create livelihoods, support families and contribute to the local economy.
It further said the implementation represented a foundation for additional support initiatives aimed at expanding economic opportunities for small businesses across Enugu State.
