The Abia State Police Command has raided suspected criminal camps in the Isuochi area of Umunneochi Local Government Area, recovering 28 human skulls and bones suspected to be those of kidnapped victims.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, September 27, 2026, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi.
According to Chinaka, the operation was carried out on Saturday, September 26, as part of the Command’s ongoing intelligence-led raids under its “Operation No Hideout for Criminal Elements in the State.”
She said tactical operatives drawn from the Violent Crime Response Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Anti-Cultism Unit, Intelligence Response Unit, Rapid Response Squad and Isuochi Divisional Police Station stormed suspected criminal camps in the forests at Umuaku and Nneato, Isuochi.
“Upon arrival of the Command’s tactical operatives at the camps, the suspects fled. The criminal camps were subsequently dismantled. A total of twenty-eight (28) human skulls and bones, suspected to be kidnap victims, were recovered,” Chinaka said.
She added that investigation into the discovery was ongoing, while surveillance of the area had been intensified and efforts were being made to apprehend the suspects who escaped during the operation.
The PPRO quoted CP Afolabi as reiterating the Command’s determination to make Abia “a no-hiding place for criminals and their activities,” while urging residents to support the Police with useful information.
“The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, reiterates the Command’s commitment to ensuring that Abia remains a no-hiding place for criminals and their activities,” Chinaka said.
She encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities and other security concerns to the nearest police station, stressing that residents remain important partners in the fight against crime.
