President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Thursday for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform the Islamic pilgrimage of Umrah and pray for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability and progress, the Presidency has announced.
The trip was disclosed in a State House press release dated Wednesday, October 28, 2026, signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to Onanuga, the visit will provide Tinubu with an opportunity for spiritual reflection and devotion as he seeks divine guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its people.
“While in Makkah, President Tinubu will perform the religious rites associated with Umrah, seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its people,” the statement said.
The announcement comes as Nigerians continue to look to the Federal Government for solutions to the country’s economic and security challenges, making the President’s stated intention to pray for the nation a prominent feature of the visit.
Before departing Abuja, Tinubu is scheduled to commission equipment acquired by the Nigerian Air Force for its operations at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The Presidency did not disclose further details about the equipment or the operational capabilities it is expected to support.
Onanuga said the President would return to Nigeria next week after completing the spiritual exercise.
The statement did not specify the exact date of his return or provide details of any official engagements scheduled during the trip beyond the Umrah pilgrimage and the commissioning of the Air Force equipment.
