A tenant in Benin City, Edo State, has allegedly smashed his landlord’s head during a violent confrontation over an increase in rent from ₦300,000 to ₦1 million.

The incident reportedly followed a disagreement over renovation work the tenant had carried out in the apartment at his own expense to improve the premises for his business.

In a video shared online by Edo TV on Friday, October 30, the tenant narrated that the confrontation began on the morning of the incident when his landlord questioned him about the tiling work.

He claimed that the landlord demanded additional payment for the renovation and subsequently increased his rent from ₦300,000 to ₦1 million.

Recounting how the disagreement escalated into violence, the tenant alleged that his landlord slapped him first, prompting him to retaliate by smashing the landlord’s head.

“He slapped me first and out of my defence, I smashed his head. It wasn’t intentional,” the tenant said.

The altercation reportedly left the landlord with serious head injuries.
