All might not have been heard about the confrontation between a police officer and an Army officer on Wednesday, 8th January, 2020 at Texaco, Abakpa Nike Enugu, Enugu State as Journalist101 digs further into the ugly incident.

Information gathered by Journalist101 suggests that event of the past in the state could have triggered it. Journalist101 gathered that on the 3rd of January, 2020, Enugu Police command arrested a 4-man gang of kidnappers at Umabor, Nsukka LGA, which were later discovered to be Army Officers.

The arrest of the kidnappers Journalist101 learnt followed a distress call by the wife of the victim (Asogwa Chukwudi) at about 9PM on the 3rd of January,2020 whom she told the police has been abducted at his shop at Agu-Umabor Village by four armed gunmen dressed in military Uniform using an ash coloured Mercedes Benz.

It was further gathered that the police intercepted the hoodlums at Umabor and Mr. Asogwa Chukwudi (their victim) rescued from the boot of their vehicle. the 4 suspects it we also learnt claimed to be soldiers of 72 battalion, Markurdi, Benue State. Items recovered from them included; 2 AK47 riffles, a vehicle with Reg. No. Abuja, CQ782RBC.

When contacted, the police Spokesperson in Enugu State, CSP, Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the incident of Wednesday, 8th January, 2020 between a police officer and an army personnel but disagreed with the story on the media.

According to CSP, Amaraizu; “One of their officers, Anthonia Udemezue attached to traffic section was assaulted at Texaco, Bus stop, Abakpa Nike, by one lance corporal Fasole Taiwo of 82 Division, Nigeria Army.

“The reason for the assault was her failure to pass a commercial tricycle (Keke) which the army man was inside because it wasn’t yet their turn. The army officer was subsequently arrested and transferred to state CID Enugu.”

The Enugu Police PRO dismissed the media report that a police officer as false. “If the report is true, why was the army officer arrested? If that unprofessional report is true, why was the army high command in Enugu with the Commissioner of Police yesterday to broker peace?” Amaraizu said.

Asked if this confrontation had a relationship with the arrest of some army officers for kidnapping, CSP Amaraizu said; “though the incident of 8th January was uncalled for and unprovoked, i don’t have any reason to believe they’re related because that’s a different matter and that particular case is before army high command as they have been adequately informed.

All efforts to get the reaction of the army spokesperson in Enugu were unsuccessful as he neither replied the text message sent to his mobile line nor answered his calls.
