We wish to clarify that our earlier report that Baywood Foundation got a grant of $1m from Coca-Cola Foundation to empower 600 Enugu youths was a typo as the Foundation received a grant of $98, 925.

Baywood Foundation; a non governmental organisation registered in 2009 said it has received a grant of ninety-eight thousand, nine hundred and twenty five dollars ($98,925) from Coca-Cola Foundation to enable them empower 600 youths in Enugu state.

This development was disclosed by Barr. Ojielo Chukwudi, the Country Director of Baywood Foundation during a press briefing in Enugu on Friday.

Ojielo said the grant is to enable their foundation to implement the Youth ICT and Skills Acquisition Project (YISAP) in Enugu State which is designed to be implemented from January to December, 2021.

Speaking further, Barr. Ojielo said: “The project will empower 600 young people (especially young women) with relevant entrepreneurship and vocational skills such as ICT, Photography, Photo and video editing, Agro-business skills, Barbing, Digital marketing, Graphic design, Confectioneries, amongst others that young people can leverage on for a steady stream of income.

“The YISAP project will also provide seed funds to 100 participants to help start up their business. Additionally, it will provide mentorship and support on Branding and Packaging, Trademark and Business registration as well as empower beneficiaries with skills of business and financial management. It will also create partnership with institutions such as SME Agencies to provide market access, industry linkages and access to finance for innovative ideas and startups for young entrepreneurs leveraging on technology to scale their businesses.”

He also expressed their gratitude to Coca-Cola Foundation for the grant stressing that it will help them in their empowerment mantra in the state.

” We are grateful to The Coca-Cola Foundation for this grant award as this will no doubt, empower participants with the requisite ICT and entrepreneurial skills necessary to become self employed and employable. It will also boost improved livelihood for participants, including persons with disability and their beneficiaries,” he said.

The Country Director of Baywood Foundation also disclosed that the project with will be kicked off in Udi local government, Enugu West Senatorial zone; Igboeze North LG, Enugu North Senatorial Zone and Enugu East LG, Enugu East Senatorial zone stressing that they’re already “discussing with the local governments concerned to carry them along and leverage on their platforms so we can integrate them into the whole system.
