The threat by the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi to deal with shop owners that fail to open might have yielded no fruit as most places in the state are ‘ghost towns’.

On Sunday, the Governor ordered the immediate confiscation of shops owned by traders who will not open up for businesses on Monday.

But a visit to some areas in the state reveals that the threat by the Governor held no water as even the shops within Abakaliki, the state capital including that within the premises of State criminal investigation department were completely locked down.

The story is the same at Aba, Abia State as the markets and roads are completely deserted.

Our correspondent also gathered that the streets of Enugu have been turned into a football pitch.

The markets are closed and a visit to the popular timber market, Abakpa revealed that all the shops are locked.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB had declared Mondays sit-at-home in the Eastern part of the country in protest to the continued detention of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

However, the group cancelled the order and changed it to days Kanu will be appearing in Court. But this is the third Monday after the suspension was announced and people fail to come out.

More details from other areas later…
