2023 Election

Hon. Justice A.R.Mohammed of the Federal High Court 4, Abuja has fixed 15th November, 2021 for commencement of hearing on the suit filed by the Igbo Leadership Development Foundation, ILDF, and its National Chairman, Dr. Godwin Udibe against the Federal Character Commission, INEC and the 18 registered political parties in the country.

Among the reliefs sought by ILDF include:

“A DECLARATION that the Federal Character Commission is constitutionally bound to promote, monitor and enforce equitable zoning or rotation of the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, between Northern and Southern Nigeria and among the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria in accordance to the principles contained in section 14(3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999(as amended) and/or any other formula and guidelines to be made in connection thereto.

“A DECLARATION that based on the Federal Character of Nigeria, the South East geo-political zone is entitled to the exclusion of any other Zone in Nigeria to produce the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023.

“AN ORDER mandating the 3rd to 20th defendants to present only South East indigenes as their Presidential Candidates for the 2023 Presidential Election in Nigeria.

“AN ORDER restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission from accepting nominations of persons who are not indigenes of South East geo-political zone from the 3rd to 20th defendants or any registered political party for the 2023 Presidential Election.”

The date is contained in hearing notice served on the Counsel for the Plaintiffs, Mr. John Nwobodo Esq.
