A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Babafemi Ojudu, has criticised the party’s newly unveiled 108-member presidential campaign council for the 2027 election, raising concerns over the inclusion of individuals with controversial political records.

The APC released the campaign council on Saturday as part of its preparations for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

However, the composition of the council has attracted reactions, with Ojudu joining those questioning the suitability of some of the personalities named.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Sunday, Ojudu described the council as a mixture of individuals with varying political records and reputations.

“It contains former sinners,” Ojudu said, while describing the list as comprising “saints and former sinners, the tried and the tired, reformers and those still awaiting reform.”

He noted that while some members of the council command public confidence, others could trigger concerns among Nigerians.

“There are people whose names inspire confidence and others whose names inspire a quick check on one’s wallet,” he said.

Ojudu further warned that a campaign seeking the confidence of Nigerians should be cautious about associating itself with controversial figures simply because of their political influence, financial capacity or ability to mobilise supporters.

“A campaign seeking the confidence of Nigerians should not appear to be offering political sanctuary to every controversial figure who can command a convoy, finance a rally or mobilise a forest,” he said.

The APC chieftain’s comments come as the ruling party intensifies its preparations for the 2027 presidential election and begins to mobilise political structures and influential figures across the country behind Tinubu’s re-election bid.
