The Governor of Old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo has appealed to other candidates in the just concluded gubernatorial election in Enugu State to accept the outcome of the poll as the wish of the majority of the electorates.

Senator Nwobodo in a press statement to journalists in Enugu told the contestants that the victory is for all of them and not for the winner; Peter Mbah alone.

While thanking Enugu electorates for coming out to vote Mbah as their candidate, the elder statesman advised the other contestants not to spend their remaining resources in litigations. He went further to advise them that those urging them (the contestants) on will abandon them along the way.

“I congratulate Peter Mba and his deputy, Ifeanyi Osai, for emerging as winners in a keenly contested election. I congratulate the governor of Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for providing a peaceful environment for the elections when compared with what happened in other states.

“I also congratulate other contestants; Chijioke Edeoga, Frank Nweke, Uche Nnaji, and others, who contested with the Governor-Elect, Peter Mba, because their participation made the contest democratic.

“This victory is for all of you the contestants and the people of Enugu state.

“The contestants are my children and know you all very well. You are all qualified and have a right to aspire to govern your state, but it is left to the majority of the people to decide on whom they want as their governor. That decision was made on Saturday, March 18.

“I, therefore, appeal to all of you to take the outcome of the election with the spirit of sportsmanship. In a democracy, once the majority make their choice, all democrats accept the popular choice. Today, Peter Mba is the choice of the majority.

“Please join the governor-elect, come up with your ideas and work with him to grow and develop Enugu state. Eschew bitterness, and do not listen to anyone who advises you to go to court.

“After spending so much for your elections, it is not in your interest to continue spending on endless litigations, based on my many years of experience.

“Those people urging you to go to court, would not follow you to the end. They would start disappearing one after the other, and you may one day find yourselves alone. Am talking from experience. This is my sincere, fatherly advice.”
