The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has commended the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for its display of transparency and accountability in addressing the challenges encountered during the recently concluded 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
A statement issued on Wednesday by NOA Deputy Director, Media & Communication, Paul Odenyi, said the Agency’s Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, praised JAMB’s Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, for openly acknowledging the lapses experienced in the examination process.
Issa-Onilu described the move as a rare demonstration of leadership integrity and institutional responsibility, in line with the principles outlined in the National Values Charter (NVC).
“Professor Oloyede’s forthrightness is not only a reflection of his personal values but also a reaffirmation of JAMB’s commitment to operating with transparency and accountability,” the statement read.
While acknowledging the corrective steps already taken by JAMB—including plans to offer affected candidates another opportunity—NOA urged the examination body to consider additional remedial measures.
“Recognition of mistakes is the first step, but redemption and restitution must follow. Appropriate compensation should be considered to mitigate the stress and anxiety experienced by the affected candidates and their families,” Mallam Onilu stated.
He further emphasized the importance of rebuilding public trust through responsible leadership and highlighted JAMB’s response as a positive example for other public institutions. “When institutions own their mistakes and take corrective action, they earn the respect and confidence of the people,” he added.
Reiterating the principles of the National Values Charter, Onilu noted that leadership is a shared responsibility and that all citizens—whether in public service or private life—must uphold the values of integrity, transparency, and accountability.
NOA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting value-driven governance and responsible citizenship, pledging to continue advocacy efforts aimed at instilling ethical standards at every level of Nigerian society.
