Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, representing Cross River North Senatorial District, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking another major political shift in the National Assembly.
The lawmaker confirmed his defection on Tuesday, November 11, through an official letter addressed to the Nigerian Senate.
Jarigbe, who had earlier announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made his move to the ruling APC formal on the floor of the Senate plenary session.
Reading Jarigbe’s letter to members of the Red Chamber, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, explained that the Cross River lawmaker left the PDP due to a lingering internal crisis within the party.
Describing the defection as a “wonderful announcement,” Jibrin could not hide his excitement. He said, “Wonderful announcement, you can guess,” addressing his colleagues in the Senate.
Continuing, he added, “Very sweet. Our brother Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, a very very experienced legislator who started from the House of Representatives down to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria… And you know when such people are making announcements, you have to listen very well.”
With Jarigbe’s defection, all three senators representing Cross River State are now members of the APC. The other two senators are Eteng Williams, representing Cross River Central, and Asuquo Ekpenyong, representing Cross River South Senatorial District.
