Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a major political shift in the state’s leadership.

The resignation was conveyed in a letter dated December 30, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The letter, personally signed by the governor, was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Jos.

In the letter, Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the PDP for giving him the opportunity to participate in the democratic process, while also appreciating party leaders at all levels for their support and solidarity over the years.

The governor, however, said changing political realities had necessitated his decision to leave the party.

“Given the realities of the moment and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction and service delivery, I’m compelled to seek an alternative political platform,” Mutfwang said.

NAN reports that Mutfwang was elected governor in 2023 on the platform of the PDP.

As of the time of filing this report, the governor has not disclosed his next political destination, fuelling speculation over his likely next move.

Mutfwang’s resignation comes just a day after former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), further intensifying political realignments across the country.
