Presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, despite growing political conversations around a possible second-term bid.

Bwala made the clarification during an interview on Arise Television when he was asked about President Tinubu’s 2022 campaign promise on electricity supply and his public statement that Nigerians should reject him if he failed to deliver and sought re-election.

During a December 2022 engagement with the Lagos business community ahead of the presidential election, Tinubu had assured Nigerians that his administration would ensure stable electricity supply and end estimated billing if elected.

The President had said, “Whichever way, by all means necessary, you will have electricity, and you will not pay for estimated bill anymore. A promise made will be a promise kept.

“If I don’t keep the promise and I come for a second time, don’t vote for me. Unless I give you adequate reasons why I couldn’t deliver.”

However, when the clip was replayed during the television interview and Bwala was asked to respond to the President’s statement in the context of 2027, he maintained that Tinubu had not yet declared for another term.

In his response, Bwala said, “He hasn’t come for second term.”

The statement comes amid increasing endorsements for President Tinubu from party stakeholders, governors, and political blocs who have openly backed him for a second term ahead of the next general election.
