Senate

Strong indications have emerged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is favourably disposed to granting automatic Senate tickets to a select group of lawmakers ahead of the 2027 general elections, as part of efforts to maintain stability in the National Assembly.

The move is said to be in recognition of the lawmakers’ role in stabilising the Senate, fostering cooperation with the executive arm of government, and supporting the smooth passage of key government policies and reforms.

The development was reportedly hinted at by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, popularly known as Kauran Gwandu, during a meeting with political stakeholders in the state.

According to sources, Governor Idris disclosed that the senators being considered for continuity include Senator Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Senator Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara West), Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North), and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central), among others.

Others reportedly on the list include Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, Senator Abdullahi Yahaya Abubakar, Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule (Lagos West), Senator Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central), and Senator Adetokunbo Abiru (Lagos East).

Governor Idris was quoted as saying that these lawmakers have played a major role in ensuring steady leadership in the Red Chamber and strengthening legislative-executive relations under the current administration.

He noted that their experience and political influence have contributed significantly to governance stability and institutional balance within the National Assembly.

The governor also reportedly stressed that retaining such lawmakers would help sustain legislative harmony and policy continuity as the administration moves deeper into its reform agenda ahead of 2027.

Although there has been no official confirmation from the Presidency or the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the report has already generated intense conversations across political circles, especially among party stakeholders and aspirants preparing for the next election cycle.

Political observers say the development, if formalised, could reshape the internal dynamics of the ruling party, particularly in states where fresh contenders are already positioning themselves for Senate tickets.
