The Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Command, has issued a strong directive to its personnel on discipline and professionalism, following a high-level strategic meeting convened by the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe on May 3, 2026, the meeting, held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, brought together Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Departments to address growing concerns over officers’ conduct and adherence to established standards.
Edafe noted that the CP Oyeniyi while speaking at the session, stressed the need for strict compliance with the Force’s rules, regulations, and Standard Operating Procedures, warning that misconduct would no longer be tolerated.
“The Force Management will not accept any excuse from officers who fail to do the right thing,” he said.
The police chief expressed particular concern over reported cases of incivility among personnel, reminding officers that policing is fundamentally a service to the people.
“He directed officers to be polite, professional, and respectful in their dealings with members of the public at all times,” the statement noted.
Oyeniyi also charged senior officers to take full responsibility for the actions of their subordinates through effective supervision, guidance, and correction where necessary.
“They were encouraged to motivate their men, build their morale, and ensure that they project a positive image of the Force,” the statement added.

To deepen accountability and public trust, the CP directed that senior officers must remain accessible and make their official phone numbers available to the public.
In line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the commissioner announced the reorganisation of the Command’s tactical teams to enhance operational efficiency and supervision.
The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to upholding professional standards, protecting citizens’ rights, and delivering effective, accountable policing across the state.
