The Committee on Works, Transport and Aviation of the Federal Character Commission has intensified its oversight and reform drive with a strategic engagement involving the Surveyors Council of Nigeria and the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology aimed at strengthening compliance with the Federal Character Principle across government institutions.

The high-level interactive session, held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, was chaired by Committee’s Chairman Peter Eze as part of ongoing efforts to deepen transparency, accountability, and equitable representation within Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The SURCON delegation was led by Surveyor-General and Registrar, Olugbemiro Kunle, while the NITT team was headed by Bayero Salih Farah.

Speaking during the meeting, Peter Eze said the Committee remained committed to ensuring effective oversight of agencies under its jurisdiction while promoting inclusiveness and constitutional compliance in public service administration.

According to him, the engagement went beyond routine oversight and served as a strategic platform for strengthening transparency, accountability, and fairness in government institutions.

He stressed the need for sustained collaboration between the Commission and regulatory bodies to promote national cohesion, balanced representation, and administrative justice in appointments, recruitment, staff development, and resource allocation.

“Strong institutional partnerships remain essential to the realization of the Commission’s reform agenda and national integration objectives,” Eze stated.

In their separate remarks, the leadership of SURCON and NITT commended the Committee for creating an avenue for direct engagement on critical policy and operational issues.

They reaffirmed their commitment to professionalism, institutional accountability, regulatory excellence, and compliance with government directives guiding public service administration.

The discussions also focused on improving compliance mechanisms, strengthening communication channels, and enhancing inter-agency synergy for more efficient service delivery.

Following the session, members of the Committee alongside delegations from SURCON and NITT paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Hulayat Ayo Omidiran.

During the visit, the Committee commended Omidiran for what it described as her visionary leadership and ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the Commission for greater efficiency, inclusiveness, and institutional credibility.

Other members of the Committee present at the engagement included Halima Ahmadu Jabiru, Eludayo Eluyemi, Victor Sabor Edoror, Modu Mustapha, and Sani General Garba.

The engagement underscored the Commission’s resolve to deepen institutional collaboration and strengthen adherence to the principles of fairness, equity, and national unity across all sectors of governance.
