The Anambra State Police Command has recovered and returned a vehicle linked to a kidnap victim after a viral social media video triggered public concern over its alleged disappearance.
The Command confirmed on Wednesday that the matter had been resolved following investigations into the controversy surrounding the vehicle, which drew widespread reactions online.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command said the investigation helped to clarify the circumstances surrounding the case and ensure that due process was followed.
“The Command’s findings and subsequent actions helped to clarify the circumstances surrounding the matter and ensured that appropriate steps were taken in line with due process and professional policing standards,” the statement said.
“Consequently, the vehicle has been recovered and returned to the rightful owner, while efforts are ongoing to conclude every other aspect of the investigation,” it added.
The controversy erupted after a viral video circulated on social media alleging that the vehicle belonging to a kidnapped victim had gone missing, sparking criticism and calls for accountability.
Reacting to the public attention generated by the incident, the Police Command commended human rights activists, social media users, and concerned residents who followed the investigative process.
“The Command appreciates human rights activists, social media handlers, and concerned members of the public who followed the investigative proceedings and showed interest in ensuring justice and accountability,” Ikenga stated.
The Command further reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and professional policing, stressing that constructive public feedback remains an important part of its operational strategy.
“It further notes that constructive criticism, useful suggestions, and objective comments from members of the public remain vital components of its policing strategy, as they assist in guiding operational decisions and implementing necessary corrective measures,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, also reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through responsive and people-oriented policing.
“We remain dedicated to protecting lives and property while sustaining public confidence through responsive, professional, and people-oriented policing,” the Commissioner was quoted as saying.
