President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, marking a leadership transition as Professor Is-haq Oloyede prepares to bow out at the end of his tenure on 31 July 2026.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Presidential Spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who described Aina as a distinguished academic with strong expertise in digital systems, examination technology, and public-sector reform.
According to the statement, Aina, who turns 40 in July, brings a blend of academic excellence and institutional experience to the role.
“He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He has also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School,” the statement read.
Onanuga noted that the new JAMB Registrar is currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and began his professional journey with JAMB during his National Youth Service Year, where he gained early exposure to national admissions processes.
“A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service, gaining foundational experience in national admissions and data-driven institutional processes. These insights have shaped his ongoing contributions to examination reform and systems optimisation,” he said.
The statement further highlighted Aina’s professional affiliations, noting that he is a member of several engineering and technology bodies, including COREN, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the IEEE, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
“Professor Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET),” Onanuga stated.
The Presidency said President Tinubu expects the new JAMB Registrar to deploy his expertise to strengthen the agency’s operations and further advance reforms in Nigeria’s tertiary education admissions system.
Onanuga added that the President is confident Aina will build on the achievements of his predecessor and take the examination body to greater heights.
