The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has warned officers against misconduct, harassment and other forms of unprofessional conduct as he intensified visibility policing and supervisory operations across strategic locations in the state.
The police commissioner issued the warning during a security assessment tour of key flashpoints and operational formations along the Ughelli–Patani Expressway on June 5, 2026.
The tour took him to major security checkpoints and stop-and-search locations, including Edjekota Junction, Evwreni Junction, Ohoro Junction and other critical points along the busy highway corridor.
Addressing officers on duty, Oyeniyi commended their efforts in maintaining security but stressed that professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights must remain at the heart of policing operations.
“He commended their efforts while reminding them that the command will not tolerate any form of misconduct or complaints from the public,” the statement said.
The commissioner directed officers to maintain proper dressing, professional appearance and conduct that reflects the core values of the Nigeria Police Force.
He further charged personnel to remain vigilant in the discharge of their duties while ensuring that members of the public are treated with courtesy, dignity and respect.
“He charged officers to remain vigilant, observe professionally, and engage members of the public with courtesy and respect,” the statement noted.
Oyeniyi also issued a strong warning against abuse of authority, harassment and any form of incivility, emphasizing that policing must be people-oriented and carried out in strict compliance with human rights standards.
“He warned against any form of abuse, harassment, or incivility, stressing that policing must be carried out with a human face and in strict adherence to human rights standards,” the statement added.
The commissioner reassured residents of the state’s commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that the command under his leadership remains focused on strengthening security across Delta State.
He also called on members of the public to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could aid crime prevention and law enforcement efforts.
The supervisory tour forms part of the command’s proactive policing strategy aimed at improving operational effectiveness, enhancing public confidence and ensuring greater accountability among officers deployed across the state.
