The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has called on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to immediately end its internal leadership disputes, warning that the ongoing public exchanges and internal disagreements are damaging the Biafra self-determination movement.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Director of Information, Comrade Edeson Samuel, MASSOB, under the leadership of Comrade Uchenna Madu, said it was compelled to intervene because the controversy was affecting the broader Biafra struggle.

The group said although it ordinarily refrains from interfering in the internal affairs of other organisations, the current situation had become too significant to ignore.

“The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) under the leadership of Comrade Uchenna Madu has cautioned our sister organization, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to stop this market dancing emanated from their internal rancour and misunderstanding.

“Ordinarily, MASSOB would not have indulged in the internal affair of another organization but because Biafra was involved, we are automatically magneted.”

The organisation expressed concern that the exchanges between opposing factions within IPOB were undermining the credibility of the pro-Biafra movement.

“Your attacks and counter attacks, allegations and counter allegations are not useful or healthy to the self-determination struggle for Biafra actualization and restoration.

“IPOB, like MASSOB, is a big household name and service to the people of Biafra. Stop insulting and defacing its name.”

MASSOB appealed to IPOB’s leadership to embrace dialogue and reconciliation in the interest of the Biafra cause.

“MASSOB calls for peace and Biafran understanding in the leadership of IPOB as a big family, sheath your sword and work for peaceful resolution of all internal rancour.”

The group also reiterated its long-standing position on the leadership structure of the Biafra movement, insisting that there is no recognised office known as “Supreme Leader.”

According to MASSOB, the title “Supreme” belongs exclusively to God.

“There is no official leadership title or attribute called ‘Supreme Leader’ in Biafra land.

“The leadership title called Supreme is an attribute that belongs to God Almighty only.

“Any attempt or connivance or consenting to assume the Supreme leadership title is a direct challenge to God Almighty.”

MASSOB further recalled the decision reached by pro-Biafra organisations under the umbrella of the Biafra People National Council (BPNC) in 2017 regarding the status of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“It will be recalled that on 29 June 2017, pro-Biafra organizations under the umbrella of Biafra People National Council (BPNC), which MASSOB was involved in, declared Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as the arrowhead of the Biafra struggle. We did not crown him Supreme Leader.”

The group maintained that unity, mutual respect and peaceful engagement among pro-Biafra organisations remain essential to advancing the campaign for self-determination.
