A civil society group, Make Everyone Great Again (MEGA), has announced plans to stage a peaceful protest in Enugu State over what it described as the rising exploitation of tenants through excessive housing-related charges.
According to promotional materials released by the group, the demonstration is scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., with participants expected to converge at Okpara Square, Enugu.
The protest, themed “Enough Is Enough!”, is aimed at drawing the attention of the Enugu State Government to what the organisers described as unfair housing practices, illegal charges, and the need for stronger regulation of landlord, agent and lawyer fees.
In a statement accompanying the protest announcement, MEGA said its mission is to advocate for justice and fairness in society while demanding reforms that would make housing more affordable for residents.
“We are MEGA, Make Everyone Great Again. We are an organization with a mission to actually speak out for upright and injustice within the society,” the group stated.
It explained that the planned demonstration seeks to persuade the state government to introduce policies regulating housing charges, particularly the fees collected by estate agents and legal practitioners during rental transactions.
“We are organizing this peaceful protest with the aim to get the government of Enugu State to regulate housing fees and make it affordable. Let agent and lawyer fees be capped at 5–10%. Thank you,” the statement added.
Posters circulated by the organisers describe the rally as a peaceful protest against landlords, agents and exploitative housing practices, carrying messages such as “Illegal fees are theft,” “End the exploitation! We deserve fair housing,” and “Regulate housing fees now!”
The group stressed that the demonstration is intended to be peaceful, urging participants to avoid violence, destruction of property or insults, while complying with instructions from coordinators throughout the protest.
Organisers also advised protesters to come prepared for possible rainfall by wearing raincoats, suitable footwear and carrying waterproof bags to protect their personal belongings.
MEGA said the protest is open to tenants, workers, students and other residents affected by the rising cost of securing accommodation, expressing hope that the demonstration would prompt government action towards making housing more affordable in Enugu State.
