Nigerian comedian and content creator, Akinyoola Ayoola, popularly known as Kamo State, has dismissed widespread speculation that his relationship with Nollywood star and filmmaker Funke Akindele has turned sour, insisting that they remain close despite no longer appearing together as frequently in public.
Speaking during an interview with BBC Yoruba, the skit maker described reports of a fallout between them as false, explaining that their reduced public appearances together should not be mistaken for a strained relationship.
According to him, there has been no disagreement with the award-winning actress, adding that their bond remains strong behind the scenes.
Kamo State credited Akindele with playing a significant role in his career, revealing that he had admired the actress long before fate brought them together.
He disclosed that his admiration for the Nollywood icon was so profound that he named his daughter after her.
The comedian also recounted his first meeting with Akindele on the set of Everybody Loves Jenifa, describing the encounter as life-changing.
According to him, the actress welcomed him warmly from the moment they met, treating him with kindness and encouragement that immediately earned his admiration.
Kamo State said her motherly disposition inspired him to begin addressing her as “Mummy,” a title he said reflects the deep respect and affection he has for her.
The content creator’s remarks come amid weeks of social media speculation suggesting that the pair had fallen out after fans noticed they were no longer appearing together regularly at public events or across social media platforms.
However, Kamo State maintained that there is no crisis between them, stressing that Funke Akindele remains one of the most influential figures in both his personal life and entertainment career.
His clarification is expected to put to rest growing online rumours, reaffirming that his relationship with the celebrated filmmaker remains cordial and built on mutual respect, gratitude and mentorship.
