African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has taken a swipe at Abia State Governor Alex Otti over the state’s decision to impose a ₦200 million permit fee on presidential candidates seeking to erect campaign billboards for the 2027 general election, describing the governor as a “massive scam.”
The criticism was made public on Thursday through a post on Sowore’s verified X account, where he reacted to the Abia State Government’s recently announced political advertising charges ahead of the next general election.
Under the new policy, presidential candidates intending to display campaign billboards across the state are expected to pay ₦200 million to secure the required permit, a move that has generated public debate over the cost of political campaign advertising.
Responding to the development, Sowore accused Governor Otti of failing to live up to the expectations of many Nigerians who once regarded him as a reform-minded leader. He argued that the governor’s recent actions have contributed to growing public disappointment.
In his post, Sowore wrote: “Alex C. Otti has become one of Nigeria’s biggest political disappointments. @alexottiofr is a massive scam, and the full extent of that scam is still unraveling.”
The Abia State Government had not issued an official response to Sowore’s remarks as of the time of filing this report. However, the introduction of the billboard permit fee continues to attract reactions from political observers and stakeholders as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gather pace.
