Suspected bandits have reportedly killed the Village Head of Galla in Borgu Emirate, Niger State, who was said to be the brother of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.
The traditional ruler was reportedly killed when gunmen attacked his palace on Monday, August 24, 2026, after he allegedly warned bandits operating in the area to stay away from his community.
Sources said the warning did not go down well with the suspected bandits, who allegedly interpreted it as an insult and subsequently launched the deadly attack on the traditional ruler.
The killing has heightened concerns over the growing insecurity in parts of Borgu Emirate, where residents have continued to face banditry and other security threats.
The deceased’s relationship with Abdullahi, a minister in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, has further drawn attention to the incident.
When contacted for confirmation, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said he would get back with details.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the police spokesperson had yet to provide an official statement confirming the attack or the reported killing.
