The Anglican Church is mourning the death of Rev. Chibuzor Amakom, a young priest of the Diocese on the Niger, who reportedly died in a fatal road accident on Friday, September 4, 2026.
Amakom was said to have been ordained into the priesthood barely two months before his death, on July 19, 2026, making the tragedy particularly painful for his family, colleagues and the Anglican community.

Before his ordination and subsequent transfer, the deceased served at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Nkpor. He was later posted to St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Obosi, where he was serving at the time of his reported death.
The young priest was reportedly from Ukpomachi.
His sudden death has thrown his family, friends, fellow priests, church members and associates into mourning, with many describing the loss as devastating, particularly coming so shortly after he began his journey in the priesthood.
His passing has also sparked grief within the Diocese on the Niger, where his death is being mourned as the loss of a young clergyman whose priestly ministry had only just begun.
As tributes continue to emerge, prayers are being offered for the repose of his soul and for strength and comfort for his bereaved family, loved ones and the Anglican Church.
May God grant his family, loved ones and the Anglican Church the strength to bear this painful loss, and may his soul rest in peace. Amen.
