The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Kosisochukwu Edward Ibekwe, over the alleged murder of 23-year-old nursing student, Miss Vivian Chilaka, in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, September 5, 2026, saying the suspect was arrested on Friday, September 4, following credible and actionable information received by the police.
Chilaka, a nursing student, was murdered in Alor on June 14, 2026, in a case that had earlier generated suspicion against her landlord.
According to Ikenga, preliminary investigation showed that Ibekwe allegedly gained access to the victim’s premises by climbing over the fence with the aid of a ladder, with the initial intention of sexually assaulting her.
The police spokesperson said the suspect, during interrogation, allegedly confessed that a struggle ensued between him and the victim, during which he used a knife to stab her, resulting in her death.
Ikenga further disclosed that the suspect had made revelations allegedly linking him to other similar incidents in the community, stressing that the claims were being subjected to thorough investigation and corroboration.
The command also cleared the landlord who had earlier been suspected in connection with Chilaka’s death, following the progress made in the investigation.
The police urged members of the public to disregard the earlier suspicion against the landlord, while assuring that the investigation would continue until all those found culpable are brought to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended residents of Alor for their cooperation, patience and support, particularly those who provided timely and useful information that led to the breakthrough.
Ama, through the command, reiterated that every credible lead would be pursued and anyone found culpable would be made to face the law.
The command said the suspect remains in police custody as investigators continue efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding Chilaka’s murder and verify the allegations of other related incidents.
