A high court sitting in the federal capital territory (FCT) has asked the Nigerian Police Force to charge Gloria Okolie- the 21-year-old girl arrested and enslaved by the Inspector-General’s Intelligence Response Unit (IRT), to court by August 31 or release her.

The little Gloria has been detained by the IRT team for over 60 days before her case became a burning issue on Social Media following the intervention of an activist Harrison Gwamnishu. In a face saving move, the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters said the lady was arrested and detained for “her complicity in the series of deliberate and well-coordinated attacks on security formations and other critical national infrastructure, including INEC offices, and killing of security operatives in the South-Eastern part of the country”.

On Tuesday, Glory filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja to demand her immediate and unconditional release from Police custody. She asked the court to mandate the Police to pay her a sum of N100 billion as damages for infringing on her rights.

On Thursday, Harrison Gwamnishu, the human rights activist demanding Glory’s unconditional release, was invited by the Police for questioning over a murder petition. He had been asked to show up for an interview with the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID), in Benin.

“Glory Okolie detained by IRT Nigeria Police for the past 74 days granted bail by FCT High Court, Abuja,” Harrison announced on his verified Facebook account. “N2 million and level 12 officer as bond and surety.”
